The INTERGEN Project, supported by the Hasanah Special Grant (HSG) 2022 and funded by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia (MoF) through Yayasan Hasanah, aims to bridge the gap between younger and older generations. By fostering Intergenerational Entrepreneurial Mindset Development (EMD), the project creates opportunities for shared knowledge, skills, and economic growth within local communities.
Addressing the Generation Gap
With technology advancing rapidly, older generations often find themselves reliant on younger generations for financial and technological support, leading to social and economic isolation. INTERGEN addresses this challenge by encouraging collaboration through sustainable business activities. Older individuals gain confidence and financial independence, while younger participants provide new perspectives and digital expertise.
Focus on Community-Based Business Activities
The project has established three community hubs in Sabah and Sarawak, leveraging Community-Based Business Activities (CBA) and the Social Innovation Team Entrepreneurial Learning (SITEL) model. These hubs focus on upcycling initiatives, helping both generations create eco-friendly products, reduce waste, and generate income for the elderly.
Empowering Change and Economic Independence
By 2024, Komuniti Jahit Timug in Sabah secured a five-year lease, providing a space for seniors and youth to collaborate on upcycling projects. The project continues to support technical training for seniors, while younger participants assist with marketing and digital strategies.
Supporting Partners and Future Vision
As INTERGEN progresses, the focus remains on strengthening collaboration and expanding efforts to more communities. With the ongoing support of Yayasan Hasanah and MoF, the project will continue to create lasting impacts, fostering an inclusive and sustainable future.
